What our students say about studying with us

Charlotte Prescott

Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations

"I have worked in the public sector for 19 years and have moved around the country enjoying various roles.

Since undertaking a review of Tax Compliance, I have been fortunate to take on the role of the Departmental Customs Compliance and Policy subject matter expert. I wanted to gain a recognised qualification to assist me in implementing new Customs Policy and Processes and begin driving efficiencies.

The IOE Level 5 Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations course content could not have been a better fit. Each module was directly linked to my work. The course has helped me to develop internal policy and processes and oversee the implementation of compliance regimes for the department and work with delegated points of contact across the business to provide guidance and embed best practice. I look forward to a challenging and fulfilling career enabled by the mentoring and support by the IOE."

Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations

“I joined Dyson in 2005 as a Logistics Coordinator, managing the order book for customers such as Currys, Argos and Amazon.

After two years I applied to join the newly created Customs Compliance team as it sounded like a varied and interesting role, providing opportunities to get involved in projects covering most business functions and regions. My role has grown organically with the rapid growth and diversification of Dyson and its products.

Having gained the customs knowledge ‘on the job’, as a result of a lot of troubleshooting, project work and research, I saw the Diploma in World Customs Compliance and Regulations as the perfect way of improving my understanding of the history of customs, the structure and background of the global, regional and local governing bodies, whilst filling in the gaps around customs procedures and compliance requirements, all from a more general perspective.

I was recently promoted to Customs and International Trade Manager, and I believe studying for this qualification has been a large contributing factor.

The DWCCR is a fantastic opportunity to gain a professional qualification in a field which doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.”

Diploma in World Customs Compliance & Regulations

"I first became involved with customs in 1985 when I started working for Seacargo Systems, a general freight forwarder in Barking, firstly on deep sea imports, then European trailers; during this time I passed the Institute of Freight Forwarders exams. In 1988 I moved to Momart, a specialist fine art handling and logistics company in East London. Starting as a shipping clerk I’ve progressed as the company has grown and became Business Process and Compliance Manager in 2014 when the new role was created.

At Momart I’ve always been involved with customs matters; keeping on top of changes to regulations, offering advice to colleagues and clients, and managing our customs authorisations. The idea of an all-encompassing professional customs qualification appealed to me, so when I became aware of the IOE&IT’s DWCCR it was the ideal choice.

It’s not been easy, particularly with a young family, but as it allows flexible study over 4 years I’m able to plan around home and work commitments. It’s been well worth the effort and has helped to structure my knowledge and understanding of customs; the benefits are already apparent."
